Finding Joy This Christmas: Overcoming the Holiday Blues

0

Feeling blue this Christmas? Seems like a contradiction.

Christmas is supposed to be the celebration of Joy. Joy for the birth of the savior. The joy of everything lit up with color, decorated trees, giving gifts, smiling faces, friends, family and parties. The list goes on and on.

However, being an expat, it’s hard to find the same joy I did back in the states with family and friends. Especially in Asia where Christmas is not really celebrated. But being a believer in Jesus, I celebrate the birth of Christ with my wife and a few of my friends. However, I do look forward to the days I live closer to my friends and family to celebrate the holidays.

For everyone else I say enjoy yourself this Christmas. Life is short. Friends and family may not be with us the next time Christmas comes around.

On Overcoming the Holiday Blues

Feeling Blue This Christmas

This does not need to be a long list. Here’s a few ideas:

  • If you are feeling blue, stop moping around focusing on yourself.
  • Try volunteering your time in serving others instead of focusing inward.
  • Reach out to old friends or neglected family or try making some new ones.
  • Find a good church, seek counseling and start helping those around you.

And remember Jesus is the reason for the season. He is the only one to bring you true peace and joy. Serving him (instead of yourself) will eventually bring you true peace.

In honor of those who are feeling blue, I wrote a song just for you.
